Improving the human experience with technology.
Today, to ensure planned Microwave communications networks are typically audited by cell tower climbers. Two climbing teams coordinate to climb each tower simultaneously and use bright lights and/or mirrors to reflect the sun to transmit a flash to the opposite team while the other team record the flash with a zoom camera..
If you thinks that sounds insane… so did I!
At Vertspec we fly MW LOS projects using a drone to zoom and view each opposite tower. This is already a great solution, but if the weather isn’t right, or the distance is just too long, we can’t get a clear visual of the opposite tower.
The goal is to see this beacon from 40 miles away!
The LOS light beacon was designed to mount on top of a DJI M30 UAV, and transmit a columated, ultra bright light to a drone equipped with the matching light emitter on the opposite site.
*This project is ongoing. A new 500 Watt design is in testing now.
– Even the best drone zoom cameras cant see 30+ miles away… seeing the oposite tower amongst trees and heat diostortion is very difficult and can lead to doubt.
– The LOS beacon flashes a known pattern. A Camera or another sensor on the opposite site can detect even a flicker of pixel at the transmitted pattern to scientifically confirm a MW LOS path is good.
